Special Features That Distinguish Fortuna Enterprise from Fortuna
2000:
- Fortuna Enterprise has a very similar interface and features
to Fortuna 2000, so they are very much alike on the surface.
Underneath, however, the system has been rewritten to optimise
use with SQL Server.
- For existing Fortuna users, there is an easy upgrade path
from Fortuna 2000. Also the similar interface means little retraining
of your staff is required.
- Fortuna Enterprise is quicker than Fortuna 2000 but the main
thing is that the increasing size of the database over time
should not unduly affect performance.
- Fortuna Enterprise uses the latest Microsoft ADO technology
for efficient communication with the back office database.
- The Fortuna Enterprise client is much thinner than Fortuna
2000. The searching and the bulk of the data processing takes
place on the SQL Server.
- The Fortuna Enterprise client requires a far lower bandwidth
network connection, making access via ADSL practical. This means
that users can connect to the database from remote sites/home
offices etc. This does depend on the network infrastructure
however.
- SQL Server brings many advantages over a Jet database. Reliability
is top of the list here, followed by scalability.
- Fortuna Enterprise can provide the base for 'live' dynamic
web sites.
